Piano lab registration extended!

The mission of the Piano Laboratory at First Lutheran Church is to offer group piano lessons to students who would not otherwise be able to afford private piano instruction.

Registration for the fall session is now open! Click here

More recently, the Piano Lab has started to offer classes for adults as well.

Background of the Piano Lab
During the fall of 2007, a long-held vision of First Lutheran's music program became a reality, thanks to an extraordinary gift given by a single family of the congregation. This gift enabled the purchase, installation and ongoing maintenance of a state-of-the-art piano laboratory system.

Equipped with eight Roland keyboards with touch sensitive weighted keys (simulating the action of the modern grand piano), a teaching station, and a large flat-screen television, this studio can accommodate up to eight students at a time for group piano lessons.

Cultivating the art of music
Piano LabOne of the principle identifying characteristics of the Lutheran Church is its music. The German reformer, Martin Luther, extolled the art of music as a great gift of God, second only to the Word. Music, when coupled with God's Word, allows the Christian soul to further experience the breadth and depth of God's presence revealed through Christ's love. It is therefore good stewardship to cultivate the art of music in Christian service to our community and world.

Class information
Each prospective student is required to submit a registration form. Recognizing that there are a limited number of openings, and to be as fair as possible, admittance into the Piano Laboratory will be by a lottery drawing. To accomplish the goal of musical "in-reach" and outreach, equal numbers of First Lutheran members and non-members will be selected.

Organ Scholars Program
An extension of the Piano Laboratory is the Organ Scholars Program which aims to provide students with an introduction to the pipe organ and its students through group instruction. Click here to learn more.
