Lutheran Men in Mission Golf Classic

Lutheran Men in Mission’s next golf outing is Tuesday June 12. All Men and women are invited to Spring Creek Golf Course. Tee time is 8:15 a.m. The cost is $25 plus tax, which includes a cart. We will play a scramble format. Each player tees off with his own ball. The best shot of the group takes the next shot. Each drops a ball within a foot of the selected ball location and hits his/ her next shot. Each player will receive one mulligan to be used on any of his/her shots. We will use the middle (white) tee markers for the men and the forward (red) tee markers for the ladies. On #7 use senior tee.

Each golfer will be awarded a prize. Golfers will be recognized for the following categories:
   Hole #2     Longest drive in the fairway
   Hole #3     Closest to the pin on the second shot
   Hole #4     Longest drive in the fairway
   Hole #5     Closest to the pin on the second shot
   Hole #6     Closest to the pin on the tee shot
   Hole #8     Closest to the pin on the tee shot
   Hole #9     Longest putt

Immediately after the last foursome completes its round, about 11:15, we will gather at Spring Creek to award prizes while enjoying coffee and rolls.

NAMI Walks 2018 – Saturday, May 19 at Sertoma Park.  

Check in 8:00 AM, Walk begins 9:30 AM

A team from First Lutheran will once again join NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and walk together to raise awareness of mental illness, show support for those affected, and raise funds for NAMI organizations in South Dakota.

Join the effort by walking or become a financial supporter. Look for us in the church atrium on Sundays, May 6 and 13, to recruit walkers and financial support. You may also visit namiwalks.org/southdakota and search for “First Lutheran Walkers” to sign up for the walk or contribute today!

Carol Choir will present their annual “From the Children” at the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, April 22. Their theme this year is “The Mysteries of God’s Plan.” God’s message is delivered from the hearts of these children as they sing the songs, narrate and dialogue the message, read the Scriptures, take the offering, and play instruments. All are encouraged to come in person to accept this gift “From the Children.”

Hear one of the nation’s finest college choirs perform. Conductor Rene Clausen, celebrating his 32nd year at Concordia, conducts the 72-voice a cappella choir in a varied concert. One section titled, ‘Out of Darkness Let Light Shine,’ includes special staging effects and works by Joshua Clausen, Eriks Esenvalds, and John Rutter. Other composers include Josef Rheinberger, Steven Sametz, Leonard Bernstein, J.S. Bach and René Clausen. The final set includes a number of hymns, folk songs and spirituals.

The St. Olaf College Handbell Choir, Saturday, March 3, at 7 p.m. Join us for a evening of music by the St. Olaf Handbell Choir. Jill Mahr is now in her 23rd year as the conductor of the St. Olaf Handbell program. She is excited about the upcoming tour of their premier ensemble. In 2018, the choir will perform in Bloomington, MN, Owatonna, MN and Sioux Falls.

The concert program includes something for everyone:  original compositions, hymn arrangements, folk songs, a jazz standard, and even a little movie music.  Featured pieces have violin with bells, a handbell quartet, and a trio for bell tree, piano, and flute.

A free will offering will be received.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, artist and pastor Paul Oman will paint a larger-than-life sized mural of the day’s Lenten theme, “I am the Resurrection and the Life,” during both of our Lenten worship services at 11:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The story will unfold artistically, musically, narratively and scripturally during this extraordinary worship service. Invite a guest to attend, as we all become more deeply “drawn to the word” through this memorable experience. 

Wednesday Night meal (spaghetti, tossed salad and French bread) will be held from 5 – 6:15 p.m.  The cost for supper is $5 adults and youth, children ages 3–6 are $3, and ages 2 and under are free.
