April’s Grieving with Grace session will center on the specialized topic of the grief caregivers experience after the one they have cared for has died. Social time in the Gathering Room of First Lutheran begins at 9:30 a.m. with a video and discussion 10 – 11 a.m., led by Intern Pastor Jeff Backer. This event is open to anyone interested in the subject, including current caregivers and the friends who support them. No RSVP is required.

Concordia Choir of Moorhead Concert

Hear one of the nation’s finest college choirs perform. Conductor Rene Clausen, celebrating his 32nd year at Concordia, conducts the 72-voice a cappella choir in a varied concert. One section titled, ‘Out of Darkness Let Light Shine,’ includes special staging effects and works by Joshua Clausen, Eriks Esenvalds, and John Rutter. Other composers include Josef Rheinberger, Steven Sametz, Leonard Bernstein, J.S. Bach and René Clausen. The final set includes a number of hymns, folk songs and spirituals.

The St. Olaf College Handbell Choir, Saturday, March 3, at 7 p.m. Join us for a evening of music by the St. Olaf Handbell Choir. Jill Mahr is now in her 23rd year as the conductor of the St. Olaf Handbell program. She is excited about the upcoming tour of their premier ensemble. In 2018, the choir will perform in Bloomington, MN, Owatonna, MN and Sioux Falls.

The concert program includes something for everyone:  original compositions, hymn arrangements, folk songs, a jazz standard, and even a little movie music.  Featured pieces have violin with bells, a handbell quartet, and a trio for bell tree, piano, and flute.

A free will offering will be received.

On Wednesday, Feb. 21, artist and pastor Paul Oman will paint a larger-than-life sized mural of the day’s Lenten theme, “I am the Resurrection and the Life,” during both of our Lenten worship services at 11:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The story will unfold artistically, musically, narratively and scripturally during this extraordinary worship service. Invite a guest to attend, as we all become more deeply “drawn to the word” through this memorable experience. 

Wednesday Night meal (spaghetti, tossed salad and French bread) will be held from 5 – 6:15 p.m.  The cost for supper is $5 adults and youth, children ages 3–6 are $3, and ages 2 and under are free.

Join the Sioux Falls community as we trace the Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany story with brass, timpani, flute, organ, choirs, and tableau. We celebrate the Epiphany of Our Lord and conclude with the visit of the magi to the Christ-child.

Prior to the Festival, a meal of chicken and wild-rice soup, chili, macaroni and cheese and bread will be served in Reformation Hall. Cost $5.

Christmas Pageant 2017

Christmas Pageant 2017 will be on Sunday, Dec. 17, from 2 – 3 p.m. with cookies and hot cocoa following. Our pageant this year will be based on the story “The Greatest Gift,” written by local author, Tom Roberts. Tom will be at the pageant to tell the story to the children and then our children will share their own stories and songs. 

Rehearsals are Saturday, Dec. 2 & 16, from
