Media Opportunities (click to view)
First Lutheran Media Ministries reaches out in Christ’s love by offering the weekly worship services through television and radio broadcasts. A vital part of Media Ministries is the team of dedicated volunteers. You are invited to join this team! Training is provided.
Camera Operator:

Camera operators use a joystick to set up camera shots according to the director’s instructions during the 9:45 a.m. worship service.
Broadcast Announcer:

Announcers read from a prepared script for the radio and television broadcasts during the 8:15 and 9:45 a.m. worship services.
Broadcast Timekeeper:

Timekeepers keep track of the starting time of liturgy elements in the bulletin during the 9:45 a.m. worship service.
Broadcast Audio Board:

Control room audio board operators
control the audio levels of microphones during the radio and television broadcasts in the control room during the 8:15 and 9:45 a.m. worship services.
Sanctuary soundboard operators
control the audio levels of microphones within the sanctuary during the 8:15, 9:45 and 11:15 a.m. worship services.

Greeters welcome members and visitors at the door on Sunday mornings before worship services.
Information Desk Host:

Information desk hosts serve on Sunday mornings providing assistance and answers to questions from members and visitors.

Usher:

Ushers provide a warm welcome to worshippers, assist in orderly seating, gather the offering and direct worshippers in celebrating the sacraments at the 8:15, 9:45 or 11:15 a.m. services on Sundays or Vespers on Saturdays. Ushers serve for two months each year.
Altar Guild:

Altar guild members wash communion ware once a month, two times a year, either the first Sunday of the month or at Saturday Vespers.
Reader:

Readers read the scripture lessons at the 8:15, 9:45 or 11:15 a.m. services on Sundays or Vespers on Saturdays.
Communion Assistant:

Communion assistants aid the pastors in the distribution of communion for the Saturday Vespers or Sunday worship services.

Carol Choir:

Carol Choir, a children’s choir for first- through fourth-graders, rehearses on Saturdays from 10:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Contemporary Worship Leaders:

Contemporary worship leaders for the 11:15 a.m. worship service rehearse on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Jubilant Singers:

Jubilant Singers, a middle school choir for fifth- through eighth-graders, rehearses on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:25 p.m.
FLYGHT:

Handbells - Youth (middle/high school):

Good Vibrations,
a middle school handbell choir for fifth- through eighth-graders, rehearses on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.
Belle Campane,
a high school handbell choir for ninth- through 12th-graders, rehearses on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:25 p.m.

Instrumentalist:

Instrumentalists are needed to be a part of ensembles, large or small, to provide special music during worship services.

Assemble Bulletins:

Assemble bulletins on Fridays at 8 a.m. Each week the bulletins are collalated and stapled for the Sunday worship and special services.
General Office Volunteers:

General office volunteers are occassionally needed for various tasks including: data entry, mailings and receptionist support.

Blood Pressure Screenings:

Blood pressure screenings are available on the first Sunday of the month from 9–11:15 a.m. Registered nurses are encouraged to volunteer for this ministry.
Called to Care Respite Program:

Called to Care respite program provides volunteers who offer respite to individuals, providing care to their family members.
Elizabeth Ministry:

Elizabeth Ministry is an outreach to women that focuses on affirming, supporting, encouraging and assisting women in response to their needs during the childbearing years.
Friendly Visitors:

Friendly Visitors pair lay people up with First Lutheran Church members who are unable to attend church. Lay people bring Christ-motivated love to those they visit.
Helping Hands:

Helping Hands volunteers provide assistance with a variety of tasks to First Lutheran members who can’t afford to hire help or do it themselves.
Prayer Chains:

Prayer chains are for both those who wish to have a prayer or would like to pray for others.
Prayer Shawls:

Prayer shawls are given to those who need an extra measure of comfort, warmth and as an expression of God’s constant loving presence and care. Knitters pray as they knit each shawl.
Stephen Minister:

Stephen Ministers are trained laypersons who are able to meet with those experiencing a crisis situation in life.
Meals from the Heart:

Meals from the Heart provides frozen meals for FLC members to deliver to a friend or neighbor who could benefit from a homemade meal. Volunteers are need to help prepare meals.
Meals on Wheels:

I would like more information
Meals on Wheels volunteers bring substenance and a smile to those who are not able to leave their homes easily.
Teaching Opportunities (click to view)
Devotional Writer:

Devotional writers provide content for the annual Lenten devotional.
Faithwalkers Teacher:

FaithWalkers teachers or workshop leaders serve on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings for children beginning at age 3 (by Sept. 1) through fifth grade.
Library Volunteer:

Library volunteers help with the organization of the print and visual resourses available in the FLC Library.
Nursery Volunteer:

I would like more information
Nursery volunteers serve during the Sunday worship services, and on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. offering nursery care for children up to age 3. Parents and other trained volunteers are encouraged to donate one hour per month.
Vacation Bible School Volunteer:

Vacation Bible school volunteers work for children from 9 a.m. to noon for four days following Memorial day each year.
Youth Adult Leader:

Youth adult leaders participate weekly with high school youth group by assisting youth directors in small groups, games activities and devotions.

Event Host:

First Lutheran Church hosts a number of events requiring catering crews to set-up and tear-down, prepare and serve food, bake, clean-up and wash dishes.
Wednesday Night Meal Volunteer:

Wednesday Night Meals crew volunteers are needed to help set the tables, serve the meal or clean up. If you like to bake, consider sharing your treats on Wednesday nights. Volunteers are asked to serve once a month.

Property maintenance consists of year-round tasks, such as, lawncare and snow removal.
General Cleaning:

General cleaning volunteer opportunitites are available year-round. Volunteers are also invited to help annually for spring cleanup before Easter.
Quilting:

Quilters meet each Wednesday at 9 a.m. to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief and other local organizations.
Woodworking:

Woodworking takes place throughout the week in the Volunteer Shop at First Lutheran Church.
Bazaar Opportunities (click to view)
The annual bazaar on the first Saturday in November provides opportunities for fellowship and Christian service. Proceeds from the sale are donated to missions. A variety of opportunities for involvement are available each year:
Donate Items:

Bring items—garden items, plants, woodworking, Scandinavian crafts, unfinished crafts/sewing items, embroidered dish towels, seasonal crafts, antique items, vintage and collectable items, crocheted/knitted items, items for Attic Treasures or used books.
Donate Food:

Bring food—pies, popcorn balls, lefse, flatbread, Scandinavian cookies, fattigman, homemade baked goods, home-canned items, homemade candies, carmel corn or treats for the Sweet Shop.
Serve at the bazaar:

Volunteer the week of the bazaar
—make rosettes, help move, haul and arrange items, set up Christmas trees or set up tables.
Volunteer the day of the bazaar
—direct traffic in the parking lot, help serve food at the buffet, bus tables, wash dishes, greet and provide guidance at the front door, work in a shop, provide musical entertainment or help with clean up.
