Service Opportunities in the Community
Thank you for your willingness to serve! You're invited to explore the following ministry opportunities.
Lowell Elementary School:
First-grade grandmas and grandpas: the first-grade classrooms would like to “adopt” grandmas and grandpas. Volunteers would read to kids, and let the kids read to them and play games, etc. (1–2 hours a week)
Mentoring: spend one hour a week with a student.
Monday helpers: make copies and prepare projects for teachers to use in the classroom. (2 hours)
Field trip drivers and chaperones as needed, time would depend on location.
Fresh fruit and veggie helpers: prepare and cut fresh fruits and vegetables for the students once a week. The school received a grant for fresh fruits and vegetables for the year. (2 hours)
Donate: warm clothing for the students.

The Food to You Mobile Food Pantry is sponsored as a service in the Sioux Falls area by Charis Ministry Partners, a non-profit organization of 13 local congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Food to You provides a supplement to existing food assistance in the Sioux Falls area in order to decrease hunger and poverty through greater availability of food and household items. Food to You Mobile Food Pantry distributes food each Thursday at a different site. First Lutheran Church serves as one of the 13 congregations supporting this ministry financially and volunteers for two to three distributions per year.
