We have a Cat!

We have a cat. Inkydoots is our cat. I call her Doots. My husband, Miles, says her name should be Barbara’s Shadow. She follows me everywhere and waits. She waits and hopes in me for her little blessings: a kitty treat, a cap full of skim milk, a petting.
Doots was born with brain damage and has no sense of balance. Things over 12 inches high are too challenging for her to jump on. I made a stair step for Doots so she could get on top of our bed. Doots finds refuge and comfort there.
When I do my morning ritual, there is Doots, waiting at the bathroom door for me to come out. I have observed Doots waiting in the hallway to see where I am going when I come home from work. She recognizes me.
I have asked why Doots should pick me. Miles says it is the character of my love, kindness, attention, and care.
I have learned a lot about waiting from our cat.
My paraphrase prayer of Psalms 130:5-8 - I wait for you LORD, my whole being waits for YOU, more than Doots waits for me. I put hope in you LORD, for if a cat can put faith in my imperfect love and faulty character to hope for kitty blessings, I can wait on YOU. With You LORD, there is unfailing love, faultless character, and full redemption. You LORD made the Stair Step, Jesus, to redeem me from all my sin. Thanks. Amen.
1. How do you wait for God?
2. What do you think about God’s faultless Character? Is it frightening or welcoming?
3. If you could ask God for one thing, what would it be? Could you wait for it?
4. Where do you put your hope? Your faith?
5. Is Jesus your way to redemption?
(Aside: Inkydoots died on Good Friday 2009. But the waiting in the season of Advent made me think of this previous writing. Thank you for sharing with me.)
