Sixth- through ninth-grade youth attend confirmation on Wednesday nights throughout the school year. This time gives the youth a chance to learn about what it means to be a Lutheran and to dig deeper into their faith with the Bible, large and small group times and a time of worship.
Sixth grade youth alternate five weeks in class with four weeks in PULSE - a time of interactive learning. Youth affirm their baptism as 10-graders. Weekly (Saturday or Sunday) worship participation is a part of the confirmation program. Students complete weekly Worship Reflection sheets that are available in the bulletin, in the Welcome Center or here. Confirmation Curriculum by Grade Level Fifth grade: First Communion, four weeks during Lent
Sixth grade: A Bible overview and information on worship service elements, who is luther and basic parts of the catechism. PULSE (an interactive, relationship-building ministry) also takes place in sixth grade.
Seventh grade: Bible Stories
Eighth grade: Luther's Small Catechism
Ninth grade: Putting it all together and faith statement instruction.
Tenth grade: Banquet and mini-retreat. Affirmation of Baptism takes place the first Sunday in November. | Throughout the school year, monthly fellowship events take place for youth in grades six through eight. These events help the youth to get to know each other outside of confirmation, while giving them a chance to invite friends to come hang out with the First Lutheran family.
Examples of events include a corn maze, a ski trip, bowling and more!
Music Opportunities Middle school students also can take part in a handbell choir, Good Vibrations, or a vocal choir, Jubilant Singers.
Camps and mission trips provide the kind of faith exploration and community experience that can give people of all ages blessings of faith, hope and love. Attending an outdoor ministry through camp or traveling on a mission trip to dicover how big the world is, renews and enhances spiritual growth. We encourage you as families and individuals to listen to God’s voice. Might God be calling you to a new adventure? Medical Release & Code of Conduct For the safety of our children/youth, a Medical Release and Code of Conduct Form is required to participate in fellowship events or attend camp. Please fill out the form (make sure to complete both sides) and return it to the Youth Office. If you bring a friend to an event, they will need a form as well. However, you only need to complete one form per year. If you are not sure if you have one on file, please call Kristy in the Youth Office.
