Life Passages

Baptism
"Go...make disciples...baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." (Mathew 28:19)

Upon the cornerstone of Baptism, a life can be built that is filled with purpose, peace, hope and joy. Baptism is about promises:

God’s Promises--As the water is poured and the Word of God is spoken, God will embrace your child with his promises.

Your Promises--When you present your child for Baptism, you will be giving your word of promise.

Our Promises--As we witness your child’s Baptism, we will surround you and your child with our promises.

Once a month, a First Lutheran pastor leads a class to prepare parents for the baptism of their child. Parents and local sponsors are invited to participate in this opportunity to focus on the baptismal promises by God to embrace the child as his own, by the parents to nurture the child, and by the congregation to support the family in their journey. The class also includes an orientation to the baptismal service. Call (605) 336-3734 to learn more.

Weddings
"So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no one put asunder." (Matthew 19:6)

When Christians gather for a wedding, they gather as an expression of their faith in God. A wedding at First Lutheran Church will be more than a simple ceremony comprised of human words, it will be an occasion of God’s grace.

Funerals
“Death is swallowed up in victory … thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:57)

We want to share the peace and presence of our Lord with you and your loved ones during times of grief and loss.
