High School (grades nine through twelve)

Youth Group
On  Wednesday nights from 8 to 9 p.m. throughout the school year you will be able to find First Lutheran High School Youth in Manos de Cristo. This is a time to get together to: study the Bible, get to know each other, play, pray, attend gym nights and to learn how to be the “hands of Christ.” Youth Group meets once a month in the summer.

Friends are always welcome. Please join us!

Retreats
Retreats are offered at least twice a year to provide an opportunity to build community and grow closer to God.

Outreach & Evangelism
Youth group adult leaders work to connect with every high school-aged member of First Lutheran Church by delivering care packages to their homes at least once during the school year.

Youth reach out to their neighbors by sponsoring a Christmas Giving Program each year. Through the program, members and friends of FLC have the opportunity to sponsor a family or child, or purchase items for local non-profit agencies such as Children’s Inn, Family Connections, Inter-Lakes Community Action (Heartland House) and St. Francis House.

Luther SealConfirmation
Ninth-graders put together all they've learned in early years of confirmation by working on a faith statement. Throughout the year, they will worship at three other denominations, complete a service project with their small group, and complete the Faith Photo Project. This is all wrapped up with an interview with one of the pastors  in preparation for Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation)  in the fall of the 10th-grade year. Then, the student is connected with a mentor from the congregation.

Senior Recognition
Held the first Sunday in May, Senior Recognition is a time for First Lutheran Church to embrace graduating seniors as they prepare for the next step in their faith adventure. All seniors and their families are invited to a continental breakfast and the 11 a.m. worship service where they will receive a blessing and are presented a quilt created for them by the First Lutheran Church Quilters.

Summer Camps
and Mission Trips
Throughout their high school years, youth have the opportunity to attend Bible camps, the ELCA Youth Gathering, and participate in national and international mission trips.

Camps and mission trips provide the kind of faith exploration and community experience that can give people of all ages blessings of faith, hope and love. Attending an outdoor ministry through camp or traveling on a mission trip to dicover how big the world is, renews and enhances spiritual growth. We encourage you as families and individuals to listen to God’s voice. Might God be calling you to a new adventure? Listen …

ELCA Youth Gathering
The 2012 ELCA Youth Gathering is scheduled for July 16-23 in New Orleans, La. The theme is Citizens with the Saints, based on Ephesians 2:14-20. All students who are in 9th through 12th grade are invited to participate. This is an amazing experience for high school youth, and families are strongly encouraged to consider making this a priority for the summer of 2012. For questions and to register (a $150 deposit will secure your spot, space is limited) please contact Marnie Dahle Backer at 339-1983, ext. 204. Or learn more at www.elca.org/gathering.

Click to download PDF Medical Release & Code of Conduct
For the safety of our children/youth, a Medical Release and Code of Conduct Form is required to participate in fellowship events or attend camp. Please fill out the form (make sure to complete both sides) and return it to the Youth Office. If you bring a friend to an event, they will need a form as well. However, you only need to complete one form per year. If you are not sure if you have one on file, please call Kristy in the Youth Office.
