High School (grades nine through twelve)

Youth Group
On  Wednesday nights from 8 to 9 p.m. throughout the school year you will be able to find First Lutheran High School Youth in Manos de Cristo. This is a time to get together to: study the Bible, get to know each other, play, pray, attend gym nights and to learn how to be the “hands of Christ.” Youth Group meets once a month in the summer.

Friends are always welcome. Please join us!

New! High School Bible Study
meets each Wednesday from 7:30 to 8 p.m. in the Den. Come join the adult leaders for a time to dig a little deeper into God’s amazing word, ask questions and share in the Good News! Come every week or when you can. Friends are welcome, too!

Retreats
Retreats are offered at least twice a year to provide an opportunity to build community and grow closer to God.

Outreach & Evangelism
Youth group adult leaders work to connect with every high school-aged member of First Lutheran Church by delivering care packages to their homes a least once during the school year.

Youth reach out to their neighbors by sponsoring a Christmas Giving Program each year. Through the program, members and friends of FLC have the opportunity to sponsor a family or child, or purchase items for local non-profit agencies such as Children’s Inn, Family Connections, Inter-Lakes Community Action (Heartland House) and St. Francis House.

Luther SealConfirmation
During ninth-grade classes meet at 7 p.m. on Sunday nights in the fall and the spring, the curriculum covers the topic “What it Means to be a Lutheran.” Throughout the year they will worship at three other denominations, complete a service project with their small group, and complete the Faith Photo Project followed by the writing of their Faith Statement. This is all wrapped up with an interview with one of the pastors  in preparation for Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation)  in the fall of the 10th grade year. This is followed by a time to be connected with a mentor from the congregation.

Senior Recognition
Held the first Sunday in May, Senior Recognition is a time for First Lutheran Church to embrace graduating seniors as they prepare for the next step in their faith journey. All seniors and their families are invited to a continental breakfast and the 11:15 a.m. worship service where they will receive a blessing and are presented a quilt created for them by the First Lutheran Church Quilters.

ELCA Youth Gathering
The Youth Gathering, which takes place every three years, is a time of change and growth as youth from Lutheran churches around the world gather in the presence of God’s spirit. In 2009, youth travelled to New Orleans to participate in the Gathering under the theme “Jesus, Justice, Jazz.”

Download PDF Medical Release & Code of Conduct
For the safety of our children/youth, a Medical Release and Code of Conduct Form is required to participate in fellowship events or attend camp. Please fill out the form (make sure to complete both sides) and return it to the Youth Office. If you bring a friend to an event, they will need a form as well. However, you only need to complete one form per year. If you are not sure if you have one on file, please call Debbie in the Youth Office.
